Disclaimer: This is my own personal opinion.
In a world where unfortunate events can at times take place; the way to heal, is to look within ourselves, and within our heart, in order to come together as one. To me, it never matters what race, and/or ethnicity you are. From birth, none of these categories ever crossed our minds, let alone did we ever act on these topics or had any preconceptions about others growing up as a toddler or as a young child. We looked at others, the same as how we looked at ourselves. Nothing mattered to us, all that mattered is that we made a new friend at school or at the nearby neighborhood playground. And when our friend fell, and got a scratch and started to bleed, we realized we're all the same; we all bleed red. The color of our skin, and social status, didn't change anything at all. These sensitive topics are taught and learned from families, friends, society, history, and the media as a whole. And I always questioned, Why? Why do we have to label ourselves, or categorize ourselves in one specific thing? Even in job applications, why do we have to choose what race and/or ethnicity we are, in order to get a position? Can one of the choices be, "I am human." Each and every person in this world deserves every opportunity to use their voice to make a positive difference, to follow their dreams, to speak for what is fair, and to become the best versions of ourselves. I know what it feels like to be judged and/or treated unfairly by the color of my skin or by false preconceptions. It isn't a great feeling. In life, even if we experienced not the best situations from someone or from people that are not the same race or ethnicity, it wouldn't be fair to now start to dismiss, mistreat, or dislike that specific race, or ethnicity, as a whole. The way the person is towards others, is what matters. Let's take the time to listen to each other. Let's put ourselves in other people's shoes. Let's ask ourselves, what can we bring to our world that can positively impact our well being, the life of our own, and others? Most importantly, let's remember how we were as a child towards others. Full of care. Full of change.
